It's been a few weeks since I last made a blog. Had trouble at the start of the semester trying to get lightwave work but all good now.
First I started off by working on the Face. It took a bit to get the right shape and get all the detail working but by the end I was happy with the results. Then I had to start working out the shape and length of the body to suit with clothes as I haven't tried making a detailed character with clothing.
I messed around heaps with the hair trying to get the right anime type pointy hair. There was a few different tutorials that i went through before finding the one that worked best for Steve. One thing that i changed that I thought i might have done from the beginning was the colour. After going through so many different type and seeing how they came across i decided that the best look was the finial one you see here. I also went through and found the best colour tone that would match real skin and that really made a hug difference.
There is also a few little things you might have noticed, such as making his lips a little red and the brown in his eyes more textured. Using a colour spray method I found it works well for cartoon like 3D characters.
After Heaps of trial and error 3 weeks of working on the body/ cloths. I finally got it to where I was hoping Steve would look like. That hands on this body I later on changes and fixed up to look the right way as I attached them wrong. What I did with the clothing on the arms was simply adding a few extra cuts in the arms before and after where the shirt ends to singular out each colour and give it a good effect. Colour for Steve was easy, I didnt have to go using heaps of detail and spend another few weeks on him as I'm going for a PIXAR look.
The shoes worked so well attaching to the legs. I decided after watch another person make his character that I would try and tuck the pants to give it a more clothing effect on Steve.

Week 4 - 3D model idea
The idea that I'm now rolling with is having a 3D kid doing a quick walk cycle in an 3D environment. For creating this I'll be using a number of different programs
- Illustrator
- Photoshop
- 3Ds Max or Blender
- Final Cut Pro
- Garage Band
- Sound Booth

Week 1 - Ideas for my Major project
For the last few weeks i have been racking my brain whether to create a web page or make an animated 3D scene with action involved. With the web idea that I had, making it and creating it would not only take to long but would be a much bigger learning curve than what i would be capable of creating in the 18 Weeks allocated to this class.
With the 3D animation, I was thinking that i could not only create a 3D environment, but also create either two animated characters fighting/talking traveling through this environment
.
Environment - Skinny street like something in Venice - Plants
- Shops
- Lights
- Windows
- Bridges
- Alleyway - Fire escapes
- Big bins
- Water on the ground
- Dirt
New idea is to have an animation of a kid walking up to seeing a spider on a tree in its web and getting a cheeky smile on his face and then spiting at it. then cutting between shots of the spider, kid smiling and the spit flying threw the air with the kid and the spit going in slow motion and with big slow music like from the carton draft ads.
The clip is to go for around 30seconds and I'm going to try using a different 3D modeling program other than Lightwave, to expand my 3D skills and to help out if I go into the 3D industry after this course.
-Design a full 3D kid with the cloths mapped on to the body.
-Background to be country side.
-Tree
-Spider
-Web
